By way of introduction, my name is H. Louise Bernstone and I welcome you to my web site on Pepperton's Choice Books.

For many years I was in the legal profession, first in law enforcement, then as a lawyer, and finally as a Judge. I left the legal profession about 10 years ago, picked the farthest place in the United States I had never lived and moved from Reno, Nevada to New Harbor, Maine. I have continued to live in Maine and presently live on a little island called Isle au Haut. The island is about 6 miles long and about 3 miles wide. On one-half of the island is the "town" which consists of a post office, a small store and a town hall, and on the other side of the island is Acadia National Park. During the winter there are about 28 to 32 people who remain on the island. It is a summer haven for tourists and the "summer people" who own homes on the island. It is private, quiet, serene, and affords me an opportunity to write.

I have written poetry, stories and one-act plays since my childhood. I love to write and my style of writing hopefully emulates Ogen Nash. I enjoy light verse and try to instill a reason for my work.

In approximately 2006, I decided to publish one of my poems. With Glenn Chadbourne as my illustrator, the poem and its message presented itself as The Domed Bug. I traveled across the United States reading and performing story times in small schools and libraries. It was a wonderful adventure and I have continued each year presenting story time. I wear a floppy hat and butterfly wings, set up story boards and on the conclusion of the readings there is a question and answer period. I pass out coloring pages to each child--and to the adults if they would like them!!

In approximately June of 2008, Adventures Beyond The Backyard was published as the sequel to The Domed Bug. To offer a package of both books, I purchased folders and labels and asked Glenn to draw more coloring pages. The combination of the books with the folders and coloring pages make a nicely packaged gift.

My third book is now available: The Bakery Caper. This is my first hard cover children's book. It is a fun filled and action packed story of a robbery in a bakery where the robber is captured by the donuts, hot cross buns and more. What will be the outcome when the robber appears in Court and 2 Cheesecakes and 6 Cookies determine his fate?

I presently have two other poems in which Glenn Chadbourne is now drawing the illustrations. My illustrator is extremely accomplished and well renowned and I am thrilled to have his work.

In addition to writing, I have a small dog biscuit company, Pepperton's Choice. I make the broth and all of the biscuits and sell at one farmer's market from May until August. I have been selling Pepperton's Choice Dog Biscuits for 14 years, and I donate all of the proceeds to animal shelters. It is simply a passion to help animals and the company is in memory of my dog Pepperton (see History of Pepperton's Choice).
